Have I been affected by Asbestos?
So tonight me a few friends decided to foolishly enter the underground tunnels at our university. We went down several straight paths, altogether probably a mile. It was very hot in the tunnels and we were surrounded by a little steam and big white pipes which said “asbestos” on them. We spent about 2 hours there and then left and while leaving we saw on the other side of the door said “caution asbestos material and hazard” and then me and my friends realized that perhaps the workers that work down there wear masks and we were exposed for a good two hours with no mask. Am I in trouble? What are the symptoms of contamination in your body? Please help, I am worried.
Robert – Rest easy. You do not have to worry just because there was asbestos all around you. The danger comes only if the asbestos is being disturbed by construction work at the same time breaking up or removing the asbestosis and creating lots of dust that you are breathing without a safety mask. Further, there are several types of asbestos fibers and only some are of potential danger.
